Cannon Arts Dance Chosen for "So You Think You Can Dance?"

ndd1.jpg

What do Seattle, Maui, Chicago, even China and New Zealand have in common with little ole Woodbury, Tennessee? Dancers from all of these locales were featured on the National television hit, So You Think You Can Dance?

How did Woodbury, Tennessee get included in such lofty company? The idea was the brainchild of Lori Christensen, or Ms. California, owner of Cannon Arts Dance Studio. Ms. California heard about National Dance day on So You Think You Can Dance and thought it would be a fun way to get local dancers involved in a national event. According to the official website, National Dance Day was “launched in 2010 by “So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity. This year, DFF co-presidents Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman choreographed an “Everybody Dance” routine for people of all levels of ability.”

Cannon Arts Dance Studio certainly had a variety of participants, including Brad and Ben McCrary, Lori Christensen, Caroline Scott, Ella Simmons, Amelia and Samuel Mason, Katie Hare, Terra Barrett, McKenzie Hall,Reygan Nelson,  and Sharon Bessant-Stickney,.   Hostess Elizabeth Pease invited dancers wearing iconic Tennessee clothing including Civil War coats and coonskin caps, to film on the front porch of  the her historic Houston House residence.

The iconic setting and costumes surely must have been a factor in the selection process, as thousands of entries were submitted, not only nationally but internationally as well, and only a handful were chosen . In addition to having lots of fun, these dancers had the added excitement of seeing themselves on national television July 30th.Christensen added that, “ I’m very proud  that Cannon Arts Dance Studio was chosen to represent Woodbury ,Tennessee in an event of this scope and size. It allows our students to feel connected to a global dance community.”   Like Cannon Arts dance Studio on Facebook or go to the So You Think You Can Dance website at http://www.fox.com/dance/ to view a clip of their performance.
